  • That is true. Apple doesn't sell a stripped-down, you-really-don't-want-this-level model the way that PC manufacturers (who compete mostly on price as a differentiator) do. If you want low end, you can get that stripped down Dell at a price Apple doesn't bother to match.

  • There are no perfect solutions, it's true. The question is which is the better approach, to cover everyone (and get the societal inequities you discuss), or to leave it up to the market (and have over 10% of the population with no coverage at all). You feel the latter, I feel the former.

  • Oh, and I also agree that there is plenty of hypocrisy in politics. When your side is in power, they get defended. When the other side is in power, they get attacked. Once the power shifts, each side acts like the other did before.

  • I agree with you that the blame for much of the problems in partisanship lie with the public for allowing themselves to be propagandized into becoming so divided. We are all basically alike with similar wants and needs, and even our respective solutions are just variations on some basic themes.

  • I have relatives in the UK who have universal healthcare. For routine, scheduled visits they make advanced appointments. For sickness, there is little or not wait whatsoever. Don't believe the propaganda.

  • I said I was sure it was a joking thing. It was also rude. I don't fault him for knowing how to relax, just that he should know there is a time and a place. Seeing Merkel's startled reaction tells you all you need to know about how inappropriate this gesture was.

  • Government controlled health care works in the rest of the First World. No reason it cannot work in the U.S. as well. But as I said, the insurance companies would lose their business, so they propagandize us into thinking it would be a disaster.
